Corso Ercole I d'Este leads north from the castle to the Palazzo dei Diamanti, on the left, named after the diamond-shaped bricks that stud its facade and home to the Pinacoteca Nazionale, which holds works from the Ferrara and Bologna Schools, notably paintings by Dossi and Guercino, and a spirited St Christopher by Sebastian Filippo.
